It's fixed now. I know some of you experienced problems similar to this: 9/14/2007 7:59:00 AM|Enigma@Home|Sending scheduler request: Requested by user 9/14/2007 7:59:00 AM|Enigma@Home|Requesting 5274 seconds of new work 9/14/2007 7:59:03 AM||Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site 9/14/2007 7:59:04 AM||Access to reference site succeeded - project servers may be temporarily down. That's because the server is running on a network with dynamic IP, it changes every 24 hours. Theres no known permanent solution, usually restarting BOINC works as a temporary fix. If you have any ideas how to fix it, I'd like to know. M4 Project homepage M4 Project wiki |

There are services that can handle that for you. Search for dynamic DNS on the net. It's set up like this: YourDomain.TheirDomain.com. Whenever your IP address changes, your router sends a packet to the preceding address, and that site extracts your new number and updates the DNS server where you registered your domain. A couple of minutes later you are back in business. |

It's already working this way... no-ip is such a service... |

The domain works fine, the downtime when IP changes is very short. M4 Project homepage M4 Project wiki |

I can now confirm this is problem happening daily for me. Every day when I wake up, I have results that cannot upload, which requires quit/start of BOINC on every machine. DepSpid had this problem too. But the admin fixed it somehow. You may want to contact him as see if his solution would for for this project. (Sidenote: Is this the new official forum now? Should we no longer use the one at www.boincatpoland.org? Dublin, CA Team SETI.USA |

I'm working on this, but it will take some time. And no, I moved forum only once, from in5.pl here. M4 Project homepage M4 Project wiki |

Today was the first time that I had this problem. Thanks to Zombie I was able to restart and submit my finished work. Hopefully there is another solution if this problem keeps occuring. While Zombie's solution works, the trouble is if you are crunching other projects and they are alpha stage (no check points) you loose some of your work on them during a restart. |

Why doesn't BOINC simply just not cache DNS longer than the TTL? I would imagine that for dynamic DNS, the TTL would be set quite low, or else it just wouldn't work. |

Ask BOINC devs about it :) I've read somewhere, that it is libcurl related problem. As far as I know, linux versions are not affected. Anonymous wrote:
Last time I checked, TTL for no-ip dynamic domains was set to 60 seconds. There is also short downtime after IP change, up to 5 minutes, till no-ip client notices that IP has just changed. So the maximum real downtime is up to 6 minutes.

Hmm, I see now. I would imagine that the BOINC developeres are working on the problem with a very high priority, since it can be quite an annoying one for those who crunch for smaller projects with dynamic IP's! |
