In my experience (I'm running 4 Dells, 2 IBMs and 3 HPs as well as a selection of '2nd division' machines) I've found that: Dell power supplies fail frequently, never had a failure with IBM or HP. Dell HDs fail frequently (only SATA ones though), one failure on HP, one failure on IBM. Dell mobos fail frequently, never a had a failure with IBM or HP, although one HP machine occasionally BSODs and hints that the RAM controller is dead. Dell CPU fans fail frequently, never had a problem with IBM or HP. Having said that, the Dell machines are quick, easy and cheap to fix :) Cheers, Al. |

There are only short batches available, mainly to test the updated server software. I'm trying to find a way to go back to my old credit system, which used predefined values for a known length workunits. The default 'v2 credits' used right now are unfair, some users get very low credits (compared to average) while other get abnormally high values. M4 Project homepage M4 Project wiki |

my question might be answered before...but what kind of hardware exactly is needed...just hard-disks, i read s.th. about a failing ST3160815AS, or a complete server ? Btw, thanks for this really interesting project !!! |

Have you tougth about getting high end hard drives with RAID10 configuration? It would take some load off the hard drives plus data redundacy. |

Now I've got 91 WUs lined up on one machine, and the other machine only gets one at a time. I guess I'll get through them all, but it looks like I'm trying to make up for months with no WUs. |

Hey guys (and gals?!) - Just checking in to see what's up. Looking for work! Once I found this project, I made it my pet project; it gets all my primary machine's cpu threads!!! :D (Less challenges, of course) Good project I like working on, and hoping to get some nugget out of one of these wu's! Thanks. |

The instructions on the front page, under the heading "Join Enigma@Home" are all you need, minus the part about creating an account since you've obviously done that. Once you have the project attached in BOINC manager, you don't need to do anything else until you get the hang of things and start tweaking advanced settings. Please note, that there is not currently any work to send out for this project. If you're not getting any work, a trip to the "Server status" page should give you an idea why. Most users don't just crunch for one project, it's worth having a look at some of the others so you have a backup in case your main project is down or out of work. Personally, I have 5 or 6 projects on all of my hosts. Click Here to see My Detailed BOINC Stats |

This is rediculous. The Founders last post was Sept 2012. The main notification last May 2012 was to say no work available because of some hard drive problem or something. Since then there have been a few spurts of work units but no status update or expalnation for the LACK OF ACTIVITY. People join this @home site hoping to solve some WWII mysteries but they are not forwarned that the site is basically inactive and has been for most of a year and also that all but one of the Enigma codes have been deciphered I believe, and that they have revealed submarine communications as to bearing, location and sea conditions. I was hoping it would reveal something more interesting like secret Nazi loot or secret Nazi communications with some demonic alien space faring beings. And another thing, has anyone priced hard drives latey? Dirt Cheap! You can get a terabyte drive for $50-60. RAID a few of those together and you'de have something, a drive burns out you got it backed up on others. So in closing I believe the Founder owes it to the Enigma community to update and inform as to why the work unit level is basically zilch, and to keep updating us. After all it is his hobby and we are all doing him a BIG FAVOR by donating our computer time and the cost of energy, which is not free, to run our rigs and process his data. Meanwhile of course, we will keep our accounts open to gobble up what ever workunits come our way. |
