Hello. I have installed BOINC on a computer (Athlon 64 6400+) and wanted to run a benchmark (to find the best client). The benchmark is from this post. With Kubuntu 8.10 (2.6.27-7.generic), it looks normal: grubix@ubuntu:~/enigma_benchmark$ ./start 2010-10-11 19:27:48 enigma: working on range ... 2010-10-11 19:33:21 enigma: finished range real 5m31.772s user 5m31.753s sys 0m0.040s Now I have installed Kubuntu 10.4 (2.6.32-25.generic) and I am a little confused: grubix@ubuntu:~/enigma_benchmark$ ./start 2010-10-11 19:50:32 enigma: working on range ... 2010-10-11 19:56:07 enigma: finished range real 5m30.806s user 2m2.448s sys 3m28.273s The total running time is the same, but now the most time consuming allegedly by the system. Why? Little later I used a optimized client (from buninek). Again under Kubuntu 10.4: grubix@ubuntu:~/enigma_benchmark$ ./start 2010-10-11 20:52:29 enigma: working on range ... 2010-10-11 20:56:09 enigma: finished range. Best score: 1760525 real 3m39.766 user 3m39.702s sys 0m0.028s It looks normal again, but now am even more confused. What's up with the systemload for the default client under Kubuntu 10.4? Thanks for the help, Grubix. |

I have no idea what's wrong. The default app has no optimizations but it should run fine, without any surprises like that. The best solution is building your own app, directly on the target system. It should have the maximum compatibility and speed. M4 Project homepage M4 Project wiki |

OK, thanks for the reply. I think it's because I do not get turned off the powersave management at Kubuntu 10.4. With Kubuntu 8.10 it was no problem with "powernowd". Bye, Grubix. |
