If you can read German, take a look at the homepage from time to time, the top results shown there are automatically updated almost in realtime. M4 Project homepage M4 Project wiki |

I would like to play around with the radio messages. With these values (message 9 from TJM in this thread) I could decode the KEJNQ message by hand: UKW: B What are the machine settings from the homepage? m3_wrmkx102_2: score: 2065217 settings: B:HA:XQO:412:AMBGCJDZEOFNHKIRLPQSTX My guess: UKW: B "XQO" is either the "Rings" or the "Message key". But in "HA" one character is missing, i think. Can you help me? Other tips for decoding? Grubix. |

HA is the rings setting, middle and right. XQO is the key, also known as starting position. M4 Project homepage M4 Project wiki |

HA is the rings setting, middle and right.Thank you. But I can not set the left ring to nothing. I can adjust each ring from A to Z. With "HA" I do not have the setting for the left ring. I have tried out all the values from A to Z for the left ring, but for the "WRMKX" message I do not get the result from the main home page. As I said, with the values from post 9, I was able to decipher the "KEJNQ" message. The Enigma machine works, but the settings of the homepage I can not interpret correctly. Bye, Grubix. |

These settings surely worked for me, take a look here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kLWm4eo2r7g Btw, on the video you can see that I mistyped one letter, so I pushed the right wheel one step back and tried again. M4 Project homepage M4 Project wiki |

Thank you for the quick reply and the nice video. :-) On the video, I could see my problem. First, you use the ring setting "AHA." That's what I did. But: I have the WRMKX radio message from Frode's site. "WRMKX IWRZK XKSNY PZZDQ XGLYB UBSUX TPBJV SWRNU HAOUC DUAWE NTBLQ OKNHS FLIRD NRTAL SAFQZ NPRQA ILXTM TNBIH MALKO DKRAD TQJTC WVWIJ IJFTA MNGQY GJREU GNXIB XHWUW WLJYK L" The first 5 letters "Kenngruppe" i have skipped and decrypts the message. So I did it also with the "KEJNQ" message. That worked. In the video I've seen that you are not typing the message from the beginning. You start with the letter 22 (GLYBUB...). This confuses me very much. Without this information it was impossible for me to achieve the same result. Thanks, Grubix. ps: I hope I do not disturb, because I've written here in "News". You can move it into a other thread. |

Take a look here: http://www.enigmaathome.net/download/m3_wrmkx102_2 This is only the part of text from the WRMKX, not the entire message, it's the actual workunit's ciphertext for wrmkx102_2 WUs. The second number in the WU name is the text length. For various reasons which have been explained in other threads already, usually it's easier to attack part of the message than the entire text at once. It was proved already here by the break of KEJNQ, the first pass done on the entire message completely failed, while much later one of the additional passes on message split into two pieces broke the message. Why take so much time to break the last encrypted code, so the 2 fisrt were broken so fast? I feel I'm loosing the cpu time of my pc... but I gonna keep running enigma till the webpage says the 3 codes was broken. |

I think that you didn't notice that we have given up on the last naval message, at least until someone will come with a good idea for next attack. Right now the server handles M3 messages one by one, so far only one has been broken. M4 Project homepage M4 Project wiki |

Any idea where we are now ? How many % of total number of permutations/keys to go ? I suppose there is ONLY finite number of those "keys". Are we working on one message or several of them (how many) ? It's a bit frustrating to see so many CPU years "invested" in this project and only one (three ?) messages broken. I'm begining to wonder whether I'm wasting my CPU time ... Regards, |

Please remember, that the unbroken messages were attacked already in the past by guys from cryptocellar.org. Their software broken a lot but still failed on many others, and these are the messages we're trying to break. Since the previous attacks have failed, it is safe to assume that these messages are tougher than average. Since direct attack on a full text will most probably fail (but it's tried anyway), the server uses different strategy: messages are split in parts (helps a lot with messages that have missing letters, garbles etc), each part is assigned to a couple of dictionaries. Sometimes the server even tries to substitute each of the possible 26 letters in a place where a missing letter is marked. That's a lot of work to do before giving up on a message. i cannot help think that although it might be right, i feel that this interpritation is incorrect. why would a message about just two truck find its way into the mid atlantic when this has nothing at all to do with a wolf pack at sea. |

@caralu74, Dundo and Bob. I belive that all of us will have a great success ahead, because already have decode the 3 original massages of the project, I’m wrong??? At first, I’m work in SETI@HOME, but at today, no one, have search something, but none of them, have stopped work. I work in Spinhenge@home, at today, no search nothing yet, sometimes, I participate in Collatz Conjecture and there, they still work and making many data’s. For me, this project “Enigma@home”, is the project that have make more results, I wish that the results would be in technology area, like Spinhenge@home, but, I contribute to the history, for now =) Have been done just one year, since we have break one code, we don’t go break another too fast. Thanks a lot. |

Not necessarily, it is all a matter of chance. We might brake another message in one year, but it could also be tomorrow. |
