when i try to do the rename method with the EXEs you provided, i get immediate "computation error" (or calculation error). if i edit the XML, i can't remember what error message but it doesn't like <file_name>enigma_0.76_windows_intelx86.exe</file_name> being changed. i'll have to get the exact error message after work in 5 hours...

i tried both original wrapper as well as "1.00" wrapper and renaming wrapper as well as leaving it named 1.00... it didn't like SOMETHING. again, i'll have to do testing...

edit: i've had no issues using the REGULAR optimized EXEs (EM64T and Core). just this X64 (windows is x64. PRETTY sure the boinc client is x64 (tho i HAVE gotten x64 units on an x86 boinc client).)

         <open_name>job.xml</open_name>
      </file_ref>
   </app_version>
</app_info>

gives [error] State file error: missing application file wrapper_1.00_windows_x86_64.exe
file projects/www.enigmaathome.net/wrapper_5.22_windows_intelx86.exe not found
file projects/www.enigmaathome.net/enigma_0.76_windows_intelx86.exe not found
it also deletes job_1.22.xml.

replacing the 5.22 wrapper at the top deletes either wrapper or enigma_1.00.

replacing all instances of enigma and wrapper (except for open_name) finally downloads, but immediately gives computational errors.

renaming enigma_1.00_windows_x86_64.exe to enigma_0.76_windows_intelx86.exe and wrapper_1.00_windows_x86_64.exe to wrapper_5.22_windows_intelx86.exe gives immediate computational errors.

can you just post the proper app_info.xml, TJM, for the http://tjm.boo.pl/enigma/app/windows_x86_64.zip you posted? (and file list)

this is a phenom, btw. (stepping B3) ...windows x64, boinc x64.

Maybe the 64bit app just doesn't work on your system. IMO you should try one of the 32 bit apps, they are faster anyway. I'm not sure about Phenom, but on Intel CPUs 64bit build is far behind the 32bit c2d executable.

Can you make a zip of the entire folder so we can just delete the contents of the folder and unzip and be good to go without any modifications for the core2duo? I tried to do it and I either it doesn't do anything or it breaks it.

That would make several large archives for each processor, which wastes space and makes the packages difficult to maintain. The common optimized files are in one archive, and the processor specific files are in the other. Start with the generic optimized files and overwrite the files in the projects folder (just like the graphic at the top of the thread shows) and then copy the processor specific file. BOINC must be completely shut down in order for this to work.....don't ask me how I know.....;-) Open your task manager and make certain there are no BOINC tasks floating out there before you start, that may cause the problem you're experiencing.

Ok, did that. 8/29/2009 10:23:34 PM Enigma@Home Found app_info.xml; using anonymous platform
8/29/2009 10:23:34 PM Enigma@Home [error] No app version for result: windows_intelx86 522
8/29/2009 10:23:34 PM Enigma@Home [error] State file error: result awgly100_0_zAea_1_0 not found for task

Maybe it will fix itself...

I added Intel Atom executable, performance not yet tested, so it would be nice if someone could try it and report how fast (or slow) it is compared to the default app.

EDIT:

The Atom executable was tested on Atom N270, benchmark time drops from 152 to 133 seconds, results are valid. Around 5 times slower than 1.6-1.8GHz CPUs based on Core architecture, but I think it's not that bad for a 2.5W TDP processor.

I added my old Windows benchmark to the original post http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/1912652/win_bench.7z

It uses compiled AutoIt script to run and control enigma executable; there's no progress or GUI, only AutoIt tray icon while it's running. When finished, it shows the CPU time (in seconds) in a small window.
How to use: replace the enigma.exe with the executable you want to test and click benchmark.exe

It seems I was late, the link doesn't work anymore. ;-)

Linux:

Last update: 24.08.2008
http://tjm.boo.pl/enigma/app/app_test_522.tgz - app xml with all files
http://tjm.boo.pl/enigma/test.tgz - pack of execs compiled with gcc 3.2

There's no app_info.xml in either of those packages.

Can we gain some speed improvement by using latest visual studio 2010 compiler?

I don't have one, but I'll ask one of my friends to build executable. Anyone with i3/i5/i7 willing to test the performance ?

Why do these "optimized" apps not become the stock apps for projects when available? Noobs like me are reluctant to start messing with BOINC files etc.

The standard application is designed to run on most types of system, without having to mess around with system files. The optimised apps are very processor/system specific. They maybe could be included, but it would mean having to download 15-20 different apps when only 1 of them would be used. I was reluctant to change the system files around on my computer, but eventually I gave it a go.
