People suggested here that if the transmission was garbled enough, the language of the message would be incomplete and ruin the scoring system. Why not move on to the other messages we discussed, while leaving the finished workunits available on the site for human combing (a la LibriVox)? Anyone with a (language)<->German dictionary can do this, and good candidates could be forwarded to Stefan for investigation. All while the computer goes through the other messages. I understand this is not likely to be finished in the short term, but that's the case for many distributed computing projects (SETI, RC5, OGR-27). But it's at least worth a shot! -Dan Q danq.co |

I disagree that anyone with a german dictionary could do this. it is hard enough for me as a native speaker of german to read the "nearly-cracked" messages, since this stuff is not normal text but missing spaces, has "ch" replaced by q and other things like that. I bet you don't have a chance without near-native german skills. |

I bet you don't have a chance without near-native german skills. You're pretty much 100% correct, and even with a native speaker it becomes difficult. Remember these messages often contain naval/military slang that a modern person just hasn't come in contact with. I ran the KEJNQ message by a german co-worker a second ago and without a ton of pre-text information from me he didn't even know he was looking at a string of german. I had to space the first couple of words out and do the q/ch swap, then he was able to read "most" of it but even then didnt get a complete understanding of it. |

So am I understanding that this project I just joined is shutting down? I haven't gotten any new work in days.
Joined here because of the 10 days (and counting) lack of work with SETI@Home. Did I pick another abandoned project? |

... I haven't gotten any new work in days. In fact, the Server status page shows that the project has no more work (Results ready to send) in the moment. :-( 9/29/2010 10:22:54 PM Enigma@Home Sending scheduler request: To fetch work. This is a problem of BOINC. Your computer will work for the GPU, but the project has only CPU-WUs. ... Did I pick another abandoned project? That's a good idea, but comes back later... :-) Bye, Grubix. |

I bet you don't have a chance without near-native german skills. I think that the most important part is that "military slang". I barely read german buth I have no problems understanding parts of the messages; of course that's not enough to translate the full message. So am I understanding that this project I just joined is shutting down? I haven't gotten any new work in days. That's because the last batch of workunits has ended (well, at least all of the workunits were send). Batches are generated manually, most often with server updates between them, so work outages are quite normal. M4 Project homepage M4 Project wiki |

Thank you for the explanations folks. Glad to know things will eventually pick up again. |

One more quick question - as mentioned above, my client is only asking for GPU workunits, how do I tell it to also ask for CPU workunits that you said are still available? |

The client should ask for CPU jobs, if it doesn't then probably it's job queue is full. M4 Project homepage M4 Project wiki |
